Sports Nutrition Success Stories

Sports nutrition is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of strategies, from fuelling for training to optimising recovery and performance. For me and my clients, it’s less about rigid rules and more about empowering the body to perform at its best.

Most of the athletes and active clients I work with already know the basics. They understand how their body responds to food, timing, and training. What they often need are subtle tweaks from an expert, plus the insights that functional testing like the DUTCH Complete hormone test or Gut Microbiome test can provide. These tests uncover the hidden barriers that might be holding them back, allowing us to tailor strategies that actually give them the edge - whether that’s hitting a long-distance PB, maintaining a consistent gym routine or just feeling strong and energised throughout the week.

Working with a personal trainer and nutritionist creates a powerful combination. While your trainer guides your strength, speed and conditioning, I make sure your body has the fuel, recovery, and support it needs to perform - and stay healthy - through the demands of training, work, and life.

Case Study: Running & Gut Health

I’ve worked with runners preparing for everything from local marathons to ultra-distance events across the world (notably South Africa, Australia and the UK). Many of them experienced “runner’s gut” - bloating, discomfort, or digestive issues that make long runs miserable (and toilet stops frequent).

One client was juggling a high-stress job, family commitments, social life, and an intense training schedule. With so many competing demands, nutrition was just one more thing on the plate; but it was the piece that could unlock better performance.

By focusing on gut health and personalised fuelling strategies, we worked on meal planning, carbohydrate intake, and microbiome support. The result? Fewer digestive upsets, more consistent energy during training, and the ability to actually enjoy long runs without discomfort or hitting the wall.

Case Study: Hormone Optimisation For Consistent Gym Performance

Another client wanted to maintain a reliable gym routine but struggled with energy fluctuations and plateaus. Using the DUTCH Complete hormone test, we discovered patterns subtly impacting recovery, energy, and appetite.

The goal here wasn’t chasing a personal best, but creating consistency and balance. With a tailored nutrition plan and small lifestyle adjustments, she could train reliably, recover better, and keep energy levels steady throughout the week. Sometimes the “performance” you’re chasing isn’t a PB - it’s just getting the body in sync so you can consistently show up.

Case Study: Preventing Thrush & UTIs From Training

Athletes aren’t only dealing with performance; some face recurring issues like thrush or UTIs linked to sweat, tight gym gear, and frequent workouts.

One client experienced flare-ups after heavy training. Together, we developed routines to support the vaginal microbiome, including post-workout hygiene, nutrition tweaks, and ongoing monitoring of vaginal pH. By tracking and adjusting over several months, we were able to prevent flare-ups before they happened, meaning less disruption to training and daily life.
